:matteo:Please fav this and spread the word! I will be posting Makoto's status as time progresses!

UPDATE:

We got word on Makoto’s Prognosis. The Surgeons at U-Penn want to do reconstructive surgery on his spinal cord to relieve some of the pressure on his central nerve cord. This is a process that is not only difficult to do, but it is very costly. To top matters being worse, we found out that the insurance company that Makoto was enrolled with will not refund us any of the money we have already put up front for his MRI (Thanks for the donations you all have given us so far! As it has covered those costs).

However, the bad news is that Makoto’s surgery will cost anywhere from 4 to 6 thousand dollars.

We need your donations now more then ever! So if you can’t donate anything, please Reblog this EVERYWHERE you can. We’re between a rock and a hard place regarding Makoto’s situation but we’re not giving up on him!

Thank you,

-Julie and Amanda

This is why people need to either rethink how pugs are bred or stop breeding them altogether. Many many pugs have spinal deformities due to the curled tail. Some pug owners don't even know their dogs are deformed and in pain.

All that needs to be done to fix it is for people to STOP breeding for the curled tail. It would be that simple.

I'm painfully poor myself--but how far along are you in raising the money? I might be able to squeeze out a few bucks to spare!

We managed to cover his MRI costs, but the surgery is what killed us ultimately ><; (It was 5400 dollars). We know we can't raise that much but we are working with the best of what we can. If you can spare even just a few dollars we'd appreciate it (As of now the money will go towards future vet check ups)!

That's so sad...if I had money, I would donate, but as it is, I'm living day to day myself.

I just wanted to make mention, however, that perhaps you could also use this as an opportunity to educate people on this condition and what causes it. I don't know if you know, but it's actually a deformity found in many Pugs throughout the world. It's how they get their curly tails, and many breeders will do absolutely nothing to stop this, but rather promote it, because the curlier the tail is, the better they do in shows and the more appealing they are to the customer base, and it's horrible. No animal should be subject to such painful and life threatening deformities for the sake of appearance...

I do wish you all the luck in the world, because I know I would die if there were something wrong with any of my children such as this. Also, I hope you don't take offense to what I have said here, because I really want nothing more than to help.

You don't have to do anything for me if it's too much trouble. Just focus on pampering Makoto with plenty of love.

Is the insurance going to help any at all with the upcoming surgery?

No, PetPlan won't cover Makoto at all since they consider it 'pre-existing'. Which is sad, since we waited until AFTER the waiting period to bring him to the vet with our concerns. The problem is, the vet noted when we spoke of 'when' he started showing signs. And of course, the insurance company took that and used it as an excuse not to give us a dime. Needless to say,we're trying to raise money by other means.
